Material as expression, furniture as attitude

Bright and dark orchestrate a festival of contrasts in this highly unusual residence in Bregenz which was turned to reality by Thomas Mang Studio. With views over Lake Constance, the estate unfolds a multi-layered dramaturgy composed of room and light in the interior, the perspectives ever-changing, ongoingly defining themselves anew. An interior was generated in close collaboration with the architectural offices of Dietrich Untertrifaller which is not at all a completion of the architecture, but rather, a consequential continuation of it.

Adding to the overall effect is the charm of linear structure and clear contrasts of dark-hued oak and brightly radiant sandstone, accentuated by subtly placed highlights in shades of aquamarine. What the eye perceives at once, is the silence. Natural surfaces enter a kind of dialogue with high-quality materials, while select pieces of furniture articulate a precise posture, and dignified attitude. Custom finished elements and outdoor cushions by Thomas Mang round out the ensemble.
