They also invited athletes to be involved in the process, to receive feedback and to collaborate on the needs and requirements, from an athlete’s point of view – as for example snowboarder Benjamin Karl. “It was an absolute privilege to be involved at such an early stage, because normally no one gets to see these pieces this soon. And it’s an honour to be part of the process and contribute,” said the Lower Austrian, who won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2022, silver in Vancouver in 2010, and bronze in Sochi in 2014. “As a four-time Olympian, I know what we need, what might have been missing in the past, and what we athletes actually want to wear. The result is a uniform that reflects the demands of the Games themselves: “The outfits need to have this functionality – it can be very cold, it can be wet, it can be different every time, with varying weather conditions,” says Florian Gosch, Secretary General of the Austrian Olympic Committee. “There’s a lot of different situations and I think with these outfits we are well prepared for all conditions which might occur in Milano Cortina.”

The collaboration isn’t confined only to the slopes. The outfits will also accompany athletes to the Presidential swearing-in ceremony ahead of the Games – a moment of pride for the Olympic Team Austria where design and symbolism collide.
