Vienna | Issue 20 | Autumn 2017 Text: Karin Witasek

Big, bigger, Grossauer. The greatest gastronomical accomplishment. And no exaggeration when describing the incredible success enjoyed by this Graz-based catering family. Their empire now comprises of 15 businesses in prime locations in the cities of Graz, Vienna, Baden and Munich. Patron Franz Grossauer and Co has demonstrated courage, innovative spirit and foresightedness in its business dealings this far, amply proving the ability to breathe style and success into the company’s visions. From welcoming taverns serving hearty Austrian fare, exclusive fine dining experiences with international panache, premium steaks from Argentina or major events, the scale at which they operate is huge. The Grossauer Group currently employs 550 members of staff and, despite the incredible success they have enjoyed, have kept their feet firmly on the ground.

The latest member of the Grossauer-Family opens in September 2017 in the newly erected ”Post“ building at Rochus Market in Vienna. ”Great premises in an ideal location. An upcoming, modern and cool neighbourhood has emerged around Rochus Market – a real feel-good district with significant potential. Perfectly suited to our concept“, explains Franz Grossauer. The new el Gaucho will extend over the ground and first floor and seat around 200 persons. Daily business will initially take place in the lower section, starting early morning with special breakfast variations. It is to be the first of five establishments serving breakfast. An open show-kitchen and the very best steaks will deliver that inimitable urban Gaucho feeling. Nightlife is then celebrated later in the evening – when the huge bar is transformed into a central meeting place and party hotspot with DJs at the weekend. The head of the clan, Franz Grossauer, celebrates his 60th birthday this year.

The Graz-based entrepreneur can boast of having his name above the door of some 15 dining establishments.
Five El Gauchos, famous for the most delicious steaks, El Pescador, Glöckl and Gösserbräu, an event company, Herti’s B&B, a café, catering facilities in the Eggenberg, Augarten, Strassgang swimming pools and Streets, which is in the planning phase.
An unparalleled Styrian family-managed gastronomical empire that represents exceptional quality, with Franz Grossauer as its leading light.
