Kitzbühel | Issue 57 | Summer 2025
Nestled at the foot of the Hahnenkamm, Haus P. was created in complete accordance with one fundamental principle: to be built solely of natural materials, designed along lines of sustainability and as energy-independent as possible, nevertheless fulfilling the highest modern technical standards. The one-of-a-kind architecture of this project stems from the quill of A2 Architecture.
The facade consists of vertically installed rough-grained spruce wood sheet moulding which has nature itself to thank for its greyish tones. In order to achieve the desirable consistent-all-over grey hue of the wood, the boards were exposed horizontally to wind and weather for three months before being mounted.

When entering the house, a nearly primeval simplicity welcomes the visitor. In the interior, i.e. on the floors, stairs and the central elevator hoisting shaft, pressed loam dominates. Interior walls and views of the roofing from below are panelled with a combination of sheep’s wool and wooden slats. All in all, an ingeniously devised mixture of mate-rials which generates a healthy and pleasant room climate.

The room concept unfolds in accord with clear-cut structuring: on the ground floor are the bedrooms and ancillary rooms. The lower floor is occupied by fitness and working zones, alongside rooms for storage and technical facilities. The living, dining and cooking spaces with imposing ceiling heights are located on the upper floor. A well-thought-out lighting concept is a high watermark of sophistication, with occasionally limited vistas of neighbouring buildings, thereby enabling higher visual emphasis of the surrounding mountains of Kitzbühel.

The focus of this project was intentionally placed on the highly conscious usage and application of materials and their positive effects on rooms and people. Ornamental decorative elements were omitted by and large, with the exception of certain heirlooms which find a place and lend the interior a personal note.
