Gregor Schlierenzauer enjoyed the Alpine Tour to the Grossglockner in The Audi R8 for all it was worth – and that was plenty – including capturing the most special moments in pictures.
The Austrian Ski Association eagle is an impassioned photographer. What inspires him? His unusual choice of motifs, including this not-quite-ordinary round with the Audi R8 Spyder, the way the two speedsters tooled the way through the mountain peaks of Tyrol. “I had this pleasure once before, but only on a test stretch. To pilot the Audi R8 up and across narrow mountain roads and weave around the tightest of curves, now that is something else again.”
An attractive round, completely without bothersome traffic, notorious tailgaters or zones of nervewracking construction. It even included some culinary pit stops, providing the perfect backdrop conditions for letting loose the 610 hp roadster with its 5.2 litre V10 FSI engine.
“In spite of the wet weather and the somewhat rainy roads, the pleasure of driving this powerhouse was always at its ultimate,” said Schlierenzauer with visible enthusiasm about his ‘escort’ and deeply impressed by its hidden powers. “When you’re sitting in a car that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 3.3 seconds, then you want to find out how that is done, right?” queries the Tyrolean rhetorically with a smile on his face. “Fortunately there were some dry stretches of road.”
