Vienna | Issue 19 | Spring 2017
Traditional wineries open their doors on the 6th and 7th May 2017 and invite you to enjoy the finest wines from four wine-growing regions.
The Association of Traditional Austrian Wineries is an alliance of 33 prestigious winemakers from the Kremstal, Kamptal, Wagram and Traisental wine regions. A traditional event is held in spring, when on the 6th and 7th May 2017, the Tour de Vin invites visitors for the 23rd year to sample the regional vintage. From 10.00 hrs onwards on both days, visitors can sample the wines of 2016, mingle with the winemakers and purchase their favourite wines direct. Food trucks, cellar and vineyard tours, a jazz brunch and visiting winemakers from all over the world are just a few of the highlights of this year’s varied programme.
Not just wine alone
The diverse programme ranges from hikes with the winemakers through the vineyards, to cellar tours, sampling of rarities and presentations of interesting guest winegrowers. Most of the supporting programme is included in the entrance ticket price of Euro 25, which also entitles visitors to sample wines at all 33 member winemakers. All addresses and additional programme points are listed in the Tour-de-Vin-pass, which is on display at all wineries.
Visitors may avail themselves of snacks and more substantial meals at the wineries before and after the wine tasting sessions.
The legendary Magnum Party with live music is held on Saturday evening from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in Kloster Und in Krems, where the wines from all 33 wineries are poured from magnum bottles. The dress code is smart casual or traditional costume. The entrance fee is Euro 20 with the Tour de Vin button, or Euro 30 without.
