Vienna | Issue 20 | Autumn 2017 Text: Karin Witasek
In only a few days, Austria’s biggest design festival will take place for an eleventh time. Over 100 events make Vienna the ”City Full of Design“. “As we enter a new decade, we are delighted to be able to build on existing successes“, said festival director and founder, Lilli Hollein, during the annual press conference on May 4th at the new offices along Mahlerstrasse. For 10 whole days, the Vienna Design Week is played out in new spaces and venues, supporting established businesses and putting the many facets of this year’s festival district of Fünfhaus on display. The programme again includes experimental design and takes us on the trail of traditional Viennese handicrafts. The festival is home to exhibitions, workshops, debates and guided tours all over Vienna.
Visitors are privy to national and international projects, as well as experimental approaches to architecture, graphics, products, furniture, industrial and social design.
By focussing on a different country every year, Lilli Hollein is able to provide detailed insights into the creative work of other countries. Exciting Rumania presents its design and creative scene in 2017.
