In the very heart of Vienna’s historic old town, at the tradition-rich square Am Hof, one of the city’s most exciting ventures has been located since 2022: the private members’ club Am Hof 8. Within an unassuming, historic residential building dating back to 1508, a concept has been brought to life that Vienna had never seen before – exclusive, pared down, intelligently conceived, and deliberately unpretentious.

The mastermind behind this project is Johannes Kattus, who, with a clear vision and uncompromising standards of quality, spent several years creating a refuge that consciously distinguishes itself from classic club clichés. Am Hof 8 is not a place for display – it is a place for retreat, exchange, focus, and leisure. Discretion, atmosphere, and intellectual depth take centre stage. The idea: to create a place that offers modern urbanites spaces to meet, work, train, relax, celebrate – all under one roof, behind discreet walls in the middle of the city.

A House with History – and Character

The building itself is a rarity: a small residential house from the early 16th century – labyrinthine, charming, with patina and character. Instead of grand gestures of representation, the club impresses with its intimate spatial structure and sensitive zoning. Every room has its own identity; nothing is oversized, everything feels tailor-made. The interior design was led by Theresa Obermoser, known for her refined sensitivity to materials, light, and contemporary aesthetics in historic contexts. She succeeded in translating the spirit of the house into every detail: restraint instead of opulence, atmosphere instead of staging. The result is a club that does not impose itself, but rather creates space – for reflections, conversations, and enjoyment.

Today, Am Hof 8 spans several floors and offers a finely composed ensemble of spaces designed to meet the diverse needs of its members:

• Two stylish restaurants that combine cuisine with atmosphere
• Three individual bars, covering everything from morning espresso to signature cocktails at night
• A nightclub that provides a deliberate contrast – energetic, intimate, acoustically refined
• A fitness room for discreet physical activity
• Several meeting rooms, equipped for focused work and confidential conversations
• Two boutique hotel rooms – perfect for guests or a short retreat
• Lounges for reading, working, or simply unwinding
• And a rooftop terrace offering spectacular views over Vienna’s rooftops

All of this is accessible only to members – and for good reason.

Access with Intention

Demand for membership has grown steadily since the opening. A waiting list became necessary, as the club deliberately limits its number of members. Admission is by invitation or recommendation only, with a clear goal: to build a community connected by shared values – not by titles or status symbols.

A Program with Depth

A central element of the club life is its multifaceted program of events: from intimate concerts and readings to discussion formats, tastings, salon conversations, private cinema evenings, and DJ sets in the club. Everything is curated, everyone on equal footing, never arbitrary. It is not about events – it is about experiences of substance and quality.
