Nymphenburg chinaware manufacture appoints exclusive residences with dinnerware, porcelain tiles, chandeliers and custom-designed architectural solutions.
Nymphenburg numbers among the oldest manufactures in Munich. Founded in 1747 in the Au, the enterprise has produced exclusively handcrafted works since 1761 on its factory premises at Nymphenburg Palace. Apart from dinnerware, porcelain figurines and art editions, also tiles, sinks, lighting and other elements of interior decoration are produced. “Nymphenburg’s architecture projects go back more than 100 years,” says Anders Thomas, CEO since 2011. For five years the company has offered custom-made programs for up-scale general contractors, from floor tiles to bathroom walls to kitchens where even cabinets can be “clothed” in bone china. Also lighting concepts are developed: “Since our chinaware is thin and translucent,” explains Thomas, “it is highly suitable for lighting.”
This fascinates decorators worldwide. Thus, most of their models are developed in collaboration with renowned designers like Andrea Claire of Los Angeles, Lindsey Adelman of New York, William Brand of the Netherlands, light expert Joerg Krewinkel of Zurich and the young designer team from Studio Faubel of Munich, who signed two lighting projects, the “Colo” table light and “Gentiana Alba”. Their suspended light of so-called biscuit-porcelain was created during the general overhaul of the “Falkenhütte” where it has illuminated the original dining room of the historically listed building since 2020. Word gets around: 275 years of experience in manufacturing bone china is impressive. “Whoever has a special wish, comes to Nymphenburg,” says Thomas. “Designers and general contractors, since they often have concrete visions of what they want to fill their rooms with.”
