Project Description

YACHTING | 2023

This typical Dutch family business was founded in 1884 by Jan Huisman to build small fishing and working boats. Over the next hundred years, the company switched to racing and cruising yachts, moved from wood and steel to lightweight aluminium alloys, moved to a better location, expanded capacity (now 30,000 square metres), and gained access to deeper waters. Since then, the motto of the company, which now employs more than 350 people, has been, appropriately enough: “If you can dream it, we can build it.” Based on years of experience, Royal Huisman has developed its own intelligent construction concept called “Featherlight”. The basic idea is to minimize the weight of the aluminium structure and save at least 10 % without compromising the strength properties. As a result, the yard offers very light and therefore high-performance yachts with a high level of luxury on board.

Although Royal Huisman is known for its sailing yachts, delivering such exciting yachts as “Athena” (90m), “Sea Eagle II” (81m), “Twizzle” (58m) or “Ngoni” (58m), the company also builds custom motor yachts to diversify its order book. When a very motivated, tech-savvy and demanding customer approached the yard to build a sleek and energy-efficient 58-metre vessel under 500 gross tons, they were immediately fired up. The result is called “Phi” – designed by Cor D. Rover and Van Oossanen Naval Architects and delivered to the owner in 2021. Royal Huisman’s current order book looks very good. There are six ongoing newbuilding projects, including the 65-metre ketch “Aquarius II” for a regular customer, project 410 (85 metres) designed by German Frers, and a high-performance 59-metre slup.
