The owner always steers himself

When sailing yacht owners and aficionados hear the name Nautor Swan, their eyes start to shine. For decades, the Finnish shipyard has been delivering high-quality yachts that are among the best you can buy anywhere in the world. In the past, the models were bought more for long cruises, even circumnavigations, but now the regatta business is also becoming increasingly important for the brand.

The ClubSwan series, for example, has been running successfully for many years. Owners compete in onedesign regattas with yachts of identical construction. There are already four classes be-tween 36 and 50 feet in length that delight owners around the globe.

With the ClubSwan 80, a format has now been developed to offer its owners the ultimate racing experience. Building number one is called “My Song”, was drawn by Juan Kouyoumdjian and equipped with an interior by Nauta Design. Her owner, Pier Luigi Loro Piana, who is particularly well-known in the fashion industry, has already competed very successfully with “My Song” in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup off Porto Cervo. The 80-footer with its canting keel and retractable bowsprit is not only trimmed for performance on the outside; the regatta genes are also reflected on the inside. The interior has been kept lightweight and modular so it can be removed during racing. The only fixed components are the bench seats in the saloon.
