Dinghies with electric drives are on the rise among yacht owners. These four models offer innovative solutions in just a few metres of boat length.

Falcon E8

Falcon Yachts, led by renowned tender expert Mark Pascoe, collaborated with ThirtyC Yacht Design and Vita Power to develop the E8 electric luxury tender. The clean exterior lines and sharp vertical bow are reminiscent of the timeless shapes of famous classic cars. The E8’s propulsion system consists of a stern drive with two counter-rotating propellers, an electric motor, a battery bank and an energy management system. Customers can choose between versions with 90 and 150 kilowatts of continuous power. The latter offers 220 kilowatts of peak power, which corresponds to a top speed of 30 knots

Silent Speed 28

This innovative carbon RIB tender has two sets of hydrofoils. The front ones are fixed and are designed to lift the hull, while the two rear movable foils are used to control trim and heel angle in manual or automatic mode. In addition, the Silent Speed 28 has two electric surface drives developed by the German start-up eD-Tec. The ED-QDrive is a fully integrated unit with all parts housed in a robust composite housing. With two drives with 100+ kW continuous power, the Silent 28 reaches a top speed of 60 knots.

YTender

The size of the garage is not always a limiting factor on a sailing yacht, but the weight of the tender is, as it can greatly affect performance under sail. This is why the German yacht builder YYachts developed its own tender for its models – the YT7 and the YT9 – with a length of 3.60 and 4.30 metres respectively. Both are made of carbon fibre, which results in a weight of 170 and 230 kilograms respectively (without motor and batteries). The YTender is essentially a multihull RIB with a relatively low profile and integrated compressor. This offers additional safety and the option of deflating the so-called Smart Tube on the move.

Candela C-8 Polestar Edition

The latest addition to the Candela portfolio, the C-8 Polestar Edition, underlines the close collaboration between the innovative Swedish boat builder and the up-and-coming Volvo sub-brand Polestar. In addition to the understated Scandinavian colour scheme in grey and gold, the C-8 features a number of automotive-inspired details to further enhance comfort on board. The C-8 Polestar Edition has a 69 kWh battery and a charging system similar to that of the Polestar 2 Liftback. With this equipment, it can easily cover 57 nautical miles and travel at 22 knots without recharging.
